Why it is important to install rain-screen walls

from:

People living in coastal areas are ever wary of intermittent rains spoiling their home outlook. Damp walls may also cause many unbidden diseases to the sensitive fellows. So rain-screen walls have come as a delightful option for these people. It comes at a price but is highly protective. And you will never fear for any dampness hurting the precious Chagall painting on your drawing room wall.

Foam use

Foam is a great drier and so it is widely used as a constituent of rain-screen walls. Your plastic or plaster walls needs to breathe and so there is a gap between the plaster and the outer portion of the wall. This is laced with foam and other drying agents. A steady dose of odors helps keep the water quotient low. Foam also acts as a fine adhesive keeping the rain-screen intact. Otherwise it may peel off, leaving a very brusque looking nude wall.

Sheet metals

Since metals do not absorb water all that well, they are often used on the walls to keep from damping. The sheet metals are used in the interior of the rain-screen, and may be discreetly used to make an appearance to add to the beauty of the walls. Their use is transcended near the windows and doors as they are often made of wood and so the difference keeps water out.

Casing

Rain-screen walls are a great idea only if other areas are looked after. Decorative molds on the casing and cabinets should not be profusely used along with rain-screen walls. That will make it a flurry of different stuff used for molds. The casing may be done wisely with hard nails and water-resistant adhesives.

Slope

Water, among other things, has the unique ability of spreading through capillary action. The gravity of the rain-screen cavity walls should be such that the same water gets down sloping into a proposed place, from where it drains out. The gradient should be checked keeping house mensuration in mind.

Thermal and isobars

The temperature and pressure are joined to each other through Charles and Boyle’s law. In case of cavity walls and the rain-screens over them, if the air pressure is too much, it will push the rain-screen inside. So, the internal pressure should be ensured as almost the same. This will keep the walls intact; else the entire infrastructure will collapse. Sheet metals help in that aspect hugely. Also water retention inside is negligible. Otherwise water may seep in through pores and cracks.

The rain screen walls keep rainwater away and that increases the longevity of the house. Flexible and porous metal items inside accentuate this trait. House too looks different with rain-screen walls. You should keep the door wall rain-screened more than any other wall just for security.
