Garage Additions

from:

Building a garage as an addition to your home has many benefit. You will have a place to put your car out of the elements. For any person that does not have a garage this is a very appealing concept. Some of the benefits of having a garage include having a place to work on your car for routine maintenance, places to store the outside yard furniture, and additional storage for items currently cluttering up the home.

Adding a garage to your home also improves the value of the home. It adds to the appearance of the home. In most cases when the garage is attached to the home, it makes the home appear larger. The garage is also a great place for the kids to play in the cold winter months. In the summer months, it can be used to additional space for gatherings when the weather suddenly turns bad.

The costs of adding a garage to the home is generally low in comparison to the other home room additions since the garage does not require plumbing, drywall, or heating. Some people do drywall the inside of the garage and add insulation to add to the appearance and energy savings of the garage. Others leave the studded walls and add a pegboard material to hang different items on the walls of the garage.

The steps to take to add the garage to your current home is to find out the local zoning codes and any possible restrictions for your property. Decide on the style of garage you want to add. Since it is cheaper to add a two-stall garage instead of a single stall garage, opt for the two stalls. You may even decide to make the garage a three stall for the additional room for the lawn tractor.

Contact your bank to see about financing for the garage addition. You may have enough equity in your home to get a home improvement loan, which will provide ample money for the addition. A home improvement loan is also a tax deduction so it is even better to use this option.

Contact several creditable contractors once you have decided on the size and style of the garage to get several bids for the addition. Review all the bids to see the one with the best pricing. Make sure the bid includes all of the work to be performed including the removal of the debris from the construction of the addition. Make sure the contractor is insured properly for the project. Verify they use contracts for their jobs. Ask how long it will take them to build the garage. Also, ask the contractor about installing the driveway.

Select the contractor providing the best price and services for the addition. Schedule the best time to have the garage built. Sit back and enjoy the fact you are now going to have a garage it will be soon enough you can use the new addition to your home.
