The common materials include nails, screws, drywall, lumber, glue, tape, insulation, and shingles. Other materials include flooring such as tile, linoleum, carpet, and stone materials.
The common material used for most home projects is wood or lumber. The lumber is available in different lengths and widths. It can be pretreated for areas such as decks or other areas that may have moisture. The wood generally has a green tint in color due the chemicals used to prevent water damage and the wood twisting or warping.
Nails are another common material. As with the wood, they are available in different sizes, lengths, and designs. There are nails used for wood projects, metal projects, concrete projects, and even available with anchors called molly anchors. The molly anchors create a sturdier attachment between the interior of the wall and the exterior of the wall for heavier objects to be placed on the wall. Screws are similar to a nails but they have a spiral design instead of being smooth on the surface.
Drywall or sheet rock is the material used to cover the lumber on the structure of the framed areas of the room. When it is “finished,” it can be painted or have wallpapered added to the surface. There are different sizes and thickness of drywall. Drywall is used on walls or ceiling to cover the wood frame.
Insulation is to provide the energy efficiency of the home in the walls, floor, and ceiling. It can be in different forms for installation. Based on the rating of the insulation the higher of the energy efficiency it provides.
Shingles are the coverings placed on the roof to protect the wood of the roof. They are available in different styles and colors as well and length of time the shingles have for their life expectancy. An example of this is twenty-year or thirty-year shingles. They are available in tar or fiberglass material. There is also clay style shingles.
Other common material included in construction materials include plastic used to protect surfaces or to help with water prevention in damp areas. It is available in different thicknesses based on the use of the materials.
Different glues are used for construction projects. It can used to secure the pipes together for final installation, to secure the wood to the floor joists, and to seal around different areas such as the sink, toilet, and areas on the roof near the chimney to avoid possible leaks through the roof.
