Benefits of a Home Computer Network

from:

It used to be that only big companies had computer networks but thanks to technological advances, not only are they easy to install in homes, they are inexpensive too. With a home network, you can take your laptop anywhere in the home and even out in the yard. Since a broadband connection is required in order to have a home network, you will also benefit from the fact that your Internet connection will always be on.

Wired or Wireless Network

Although you don’t have to set up a wireless home computer network, it is by far the most convenient. If you set up a wired network, all the computers will have to be in close proximity to each other or you will have to run a lot of cable. Installing a wireless network gives you the freedom to have multiple computers in any area of the home, whether they are desktops or laptops. For the ultimate convenience, though, having a laptop that you can take anywhere in the home is best. Besides, if you have a laptop, you can feel free to travel with it, knowing that if anything were to happen, the same files would be on your home desktop. When you get back home, you can easily share, copy, or move any new files to another computer in the home.

Easily Share and Transfer Files

You can specify which files to share on your home network so you can still have your privacy, yet let others in the home share certain files. This is far more convenient than having to copy or email files all the time and this way, each time a file is updated, everyone in the home will have access to the updated files without having to worry about getting the latest copy.

Share Printers and Other Hardware

Home networks allow you to easily share printers, faxes, scanners, cameras, and other hardware between users. This way, you can have all of your extraneous hardware in one central location, yet it is always available to anyone to use. This is especially helpful in a home based business or in a home where students reside so that parents and students can all benefit without having to purchase extra hardware.

Inexpensive and Easy to Install

Although it may sound intimidating, a home computer network is inexpensive and easy to install. While you may pay a couple of hundred dollars or more to have a professional install it, you can easily do it yourself in just a few minutes. There are various Internet sites with step by step instructions, including the Microsoft site, which tells you everything you need and exactly how to set up your home network. In addition, if you run a business out of your home, you may be able to use part of the cost as a tax deduction.
